The RENFE Suburban Train System in the Madrid Region has experienced during 2008 major changes in its structure to improve its service. The number of suburban train lines has been reduced from 9 to 8, but nevertheless the number of kilometres of the Network has risen from 337 to 369, remaining 99 stations in service.

The fact that has transformed RENFE Suburban Train System in the Madrid Region in more modern and balanced has been the opening of the new tunnel Atocha-Chamartin which began its service on July 9.

For this reason some lines has changed. Line C-3 has a new route up Chamartin, the C-4 continues to Alcobendas, San Sebastian de los Reyes and Colmenar Viejo, whereas the C-10 finishes its tour in Chamartin or Pitis.

During 2008 the fleet has increased in 21 new generation Civia trains. This modernization of the train fleet is within a plan that will incorporate new trains until 2011, making it one of the most modern in Europe.
